Scope of this policy
This policy applies to the website eurofish.ch and to the personal data you provide to us through it. Our website is aimed at companies: fishing companies, vessel owners, processors and exporters. The personal data we process is therefore mainly business contact data of their employees and representatives.
Visiting our website
When you open our website, the server of our hosting provider automatically records technical information in log files. This is necessary to deliver the website and to keep it secure. The log files contain:
- IP address of the requesting device;
- date and time of the request;
- requested page or file and the HTTP status code;
- referring website (if transmitted by your browser);
- browser type, version and operating system (user agent).
We use this data only to operate the website and to detect and defend against attacks and errors. We do not combine it with other data and do not use it to identify visitors. Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and functioning website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Supplier offer form
If you send us an enquiry using the form on our Contacts page, we process the data you enter:
Required fields
- type of enquiry;
- company name and country;
- contact person;
- business e-mail address;
- your message.
Optional fields
- phone or WhatsApp number;
- products offered (and, if you choose "Other", the species you specify);
- countries of origin.
Purpose. We use this data solely to review your enquiry, to contact you where there is a relevant business opportunity and, if there is mutual interest, to prepare and conclude a business relationship. The form sends your details by e-mail to our Trading Team (sales@eurofish.ch); they are not stored on our web server. Together with your details, the e-mail contains the page from which the form was sent. We do not use the data for newsletters or advertising, and we do not sell it.
Spam protection. To protect the form against automated abuse, we check how quickly it is filled in, whether the domain of your e-mail address exists, and limit the number of submissions per connection. For the limit, your IP address is stored only in pseudonymised form (as a keyed hash) and deleted automatically after no more than one hour. We do not use CAPTCHAs or third-party anti-spam services.
Legal basis. Where the GDPR applies, we process the data to take steps at your request prior to entering into a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and on the basis of our legitimate interest in handling business enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Providing the data is voluntary; without the required fields we cannot process your enquiry.
Contact by e-mail or phone
If you contact us by e-mail or phone, we process the information you give us (for example your name, company, contact details and the content of your message) to handle your enquiry and any follow-up.
Recipients and processors
We do not disclose your personal data to third parties unless this is necessary to handle your enquiry, required by law or you have consented. We use the following service provider, which processes data on our behalf and in accordance with our instructions:
- Infomaniak Network SA, Geneva, Switzerland: website hosting, server log files and sending the e-mails generated by the offer form. Data is stored in data centres in Switzerland.
If a business relationship arises, we may share the information required for it with partners involved in the transaction (for example logistics or inspection companies), but only to the extent necessary.
Disclosure abroad
We process the personal data collected through this website in Switzerland and do not transfer it to other countries. If, in the course of a specific business relationship, it becomes necessary to disclose data abroad, we will do so only in accordance with the requirements of data protection law.
Retention
We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy. Offers and related correspondence that do not lead to a business relationship are deleted when they are no longer needed. If a business relationship arises, we keep business correspondence for as long as required by statutory retention obligations (in Switzerland generally ten years). Server log files are kept by our hosting provider for a limited period and then deleted.
Data security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Our website is transmitted only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Please note that ordinary e-mail is not end-to-end encrypted.
Your rights
Subject to the applicable data protection law, you have the right to:
- request information about whether and which personal data we process about you;
- have incorrect personal data corrected;
- have your personal data deleted or its processing restricted;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
- receive data you provided to us in a common electronic format (data portability);
- withdraw any consent you have given, with effect for the future.
To exercise these rights, contact us at sales@eurofish.ch or by post at the address above. We may ask you to verify your identity.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. In Switzerland this is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). If you are in the EU or EEA, you may contact the supervisory authority in your country.
We do not use automated individual decision-making or profiling.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if our website or our data processing changes. The version published on this page applies. The date of the last update is shown at the top of the page.
